At least we have our priorities straight. 😉
Late Fall Greetings
Happy late fall! Hope you either survived Black Friday or hid comfortably from it. Hope you had a warm Thanksgiving, with much to be thankful for.
Happy Birthday, Little Ones!
Yesterday and the day before, these twenty-one hatched. The last one went into the brooder today. All are doing very well so far.
Goldenrod is not Ragweed
It’s fall allergy time. Ragweed is a major culprit for many. Goldenrod is not ragweed.
August Market Day
The farmer’s market was so colorful yesterday! Saturday markets are wonderfully social, as well. The crisp, fresh air of the season makes it even better.
Incubating Late Summer Eggs
My two mean hens have calmed down enough that I want to add a few more hens to their pen before winter.
Freezing Eggs
Here is probably the simplest way to store shell eggs for months.
Deep Litter
I tried to continue raising the quail on sand after they moved into hutches. Sand worked wonderfully, summer and winter, in the outdoor ground runs. It can turn into stink and having to dispose of it often in a hutch. The deep litter method seems to be working very well. Here’s how I set it up in my hutches.
Market Day
The bees were easy on me. They are late risers, like myself, so I didn’t have to get up before the crack of dawn to tend their hives. Quail have ensured that starting a year ago, I would become a morning person, if only in presence. And market day, happily, has sided with the birds.
