Since my Janoel 12 incubator failed with a third of my jumbo quail eggs in it, I expected a tiny hatch. At least, compared to what I had hoped for. It’s day nineteen, and there are forty-three chicks in the brooder. There would have been forty-four, but one that hatched in the failing incubator did not make it overnight. It wasn’t a surprise, although it is heartbreaking.
Aren’t they adorable? Jumbo chicks seem to have a very different personality than regular chicks. I think. They zoom around like lil’ superheros.
I’ve got a door and half of the roof on the new quail shed. I’ve got to finish roofing today, since it will be rainy all day tomorrow. Or it’s supposed to be, anyway. The door needs hardware too. I’ll be able to put hutches together inside the shed. Excuse the ductwork tape on the seams and corners. We had some recent downpours, and there isn’t caulk or trim there yet. The tape is what I had that wouldn’t rip the siding when I remove it.
There will be windows on three sides.
Seriously… they are so cute!
