Escape

I have to get an escape board on the largest of my beehives today, so that the top two boxes of honey can more easily be removed tomorrow. It seems like we’re in the beginnings of a dearth now, so I’m sure the girls will be less than pleased.

My plan is to remove excess boxes from the hives before treating for varroa with Apiguard. I hope to follow this with an oxalic acid dribble, much later in the fall. I have one escape board built so far, and no time to put together another. Maybe I should have built the escape board people-sized, and hopped through it to a less hectic scene.

The walk-in quail pen is almost ready to roof and paint, and while I’ve been building that, I’ve had a few other irons in the fire.

Making soap is one of those irons. Or batches.

I’ve got produce stashed everywhere in the kitchen, waiting for me to address. More comes in each day. Each time the local lawn “care” company comes through to spray the neighborhood yards, the drift causes my tomatoes to die off more. Yet, I’ve been bringing in some of the cherry tomatoes. And lots of purple green beans, and cucumbers. We have two kinds of grapes, which need to be harvested yesterday.

I’m off to feed the quail, clean their pen, and light the bee smoker. No, I don’t really want an escape. This is that getaway.
