It’s November 21st. Thanksgiving is right around the corner. Even in this year of COVID-19 and divisive politics, I have a lot to be thankful for. My family can’t all be together, but everyone seems to be OK, so far. That could change, but we take it day by day. I have learned a lot over this past year, with beekeeping and gardening especially. There is food, some of it from the garden, on our shelves and in the freezer. I was able to sell some garden goodies as well. But come on! Can it please be spring now?
I like to order seeds in the fall or early winter, which saved our bacon last year. As last spring rolled around, there was a crush of seed orders, and many suppliers of organic and heirloom varieties sold out early on.
Most of our seeds for next year got here today. I’ve been busily cutting boards for new Warre beehives, but I’m considering taking a break to throw on the wellies, grab a spade, and beg Mother Nature to change it up this year. Starting now. With maybe a spring before the spring, instead of the winter that is actually ahead of us.
