Spring Rush

Thank goodness, I don’t have to build a shed or any raised garden beds this year! Well, maybe a couple of additional raised beds this fall, for next year. Maybe. My daughter did turn over an in-ground patch for corn, so we’ll see.

She and I built the frame for a permanent greenhouse. It only took a few hours, distractedly stretched over a couple of days.

I’m waiting for the greenhouse plastic to get here, which should be within a couple of days. I chose UV-protected 6 mil. The window opens (via “confused” hinge orientation) from the bottom, rather than the top. That is because we get a lot of rain each spring, and sometimes we just get a lot of rain for the whole summer, and it wouldn’t be good to have the rain pouring in when the window’s open.

The buckets will be replaced by raised beds and shelves, and the plan is to do that by the end of fall. We look forward to having homegrown leafy greens through some of next winter.

The tomatoes and peppers are not waiting very patiently to be planted outside. We have some really beautiful weather ahead, it looks like. So at least the tomatoes shouldn’t have to wait much longer to be in the covered beds or the finished greenhouse.

I planted music garlic last fall, and every bit of it has come up. With some luck, there will be a bit more to plant this coming fall.

So now I’m impatiently waiting for the package of bees, the pollinator-friendly plantings for the front yard, and for the weather to be just right to plant some more cool-weather or greenhouse/hoop house-protected veggies.
